Lake James State Park Beach
Enjoy time at the beach during your stay at Newman’s Nook on Lake James. The 700-ft. long beach is open May through September, 10 AM – 6 PM every day. It features a bathhouse with nice changing rooms, concessions and protected swim area. The convenient concession stand in the Bathhouse sells popsicles, many flavors of ice cream, drinks, candy, ice and more.
Boat Rentals and Ramps
Newman’s Nook on Lake James has a dock with cleats on each corner. If you rent or bring your own watercraft, you can moor it at the dock during your stay. See below for info on boat rentals and the nearest boat ramp.
Lake James Neighborhood Store & Boat Rental – Nebo, NC
For pontoon boat rentals, the Lake James Neighborhood Store & Boat Rental is convenient and comes highly recommended. It’s 13 minutes from Newman’s Nook on Lake James. You can find them on Facebook or their website. They typically will rent boats starting in April through mid-September, but call them directly to confirm as their schedule is not static.

We rent 10 pontoon boats and all are 2013 or newer with 115hp Yamaha motors. We also have 1 brand new Sweetwater pontoon and 1 brand new Sweetwater Tritoons. We have the longest rental day. We strive to provide the best customer service possible!!!!

Please call to confirm availability of boat rentals, but they seem to offer a more flexible renting schedule regardless of time of year.
Mimosa Boat Landing – Morganton, NC
Phone: 828-584-1886. Also have pontoon boats available for rent. Please call to confirm their schedule in advance, as it fluctuates with the season.

Need to drop a motorized boat into the lake? The Black Bear Boat Ramp is an easy 5-minute drive from Newman’s Nook!
They have 6 ramps and we’ve never had to wait for a ramp.
